June already?

Hello Stitchy friends.

I can't believe it's been over two weeks since I posted.  Father's Day will be here soon.

I have been busy at work and at home.  The staff at the library has been busy getting ready for the start of the summer reading program.  I have been busy with reports, and such, preparing for the end of another fiscal year.

I have been spending leisure time stitching and reading.  I just finished The Hurricane Sisters by Dorothea Benton Frank.  I loved it!  But then I think I have said that about all of her books...  I tend to mainly read mysteries or suspense with the exception of a group of favorite authors.  If you haven't ever read a book by Dorothea, give one a try this summer.

I finished summer sampler by LHN.
I was pleased with it.  I need to find a frame for this one soon!  After this I wanted to stitch the crows from a new Prairie Schooler chart.

I finished the crow that is shown in the hoop last night, and the one above I had finished earlier.  I thought these were great crows.  I want to finish them as small stuffed pillows I think.

Then this afternoon I decided on my next start.

Liberty House by With Thy Needle and Thread.  I had to order the linen and some over dyed flosses for it before I could begin.  But they arrived in the mail on Friday.  The linen is a smaller count than the previous pieces I've finished, so it's taking my eyes some time to get used to it...  Just another fun thing about being in your fifties....  :-(.

It's a rainy Saturday here.  I am just waiting on the last load of clothes in the dryer.  Mike is at work and I'm surrounded by sleepy cats and the sleeping dog.  So, I should have time to stitch on this some more today..  Then it will be time to begin a new book.  There is always at least two or three on my bookcase waiting their turn.  I mean, I can't be without a book, right!?

Supper is going to be simple and no fuss.  Probably a salad and a weight watcher entree.  Sounds exciting...

Hope all of you are well, and enjoying a weekend doing what you love best!

  1. Both the Summer Sampler and the crows are wonderful. I love all the strawberries on the Summer Sampler. Thanks for the book suggestion. I have enjoyed her books in the past. I'm in the middle of "Minding Frankie" by Maeve Binchy. I was sorry she passed as I have enjoyed several of her books.I wasn't sure about this one but I think it is pretty good so far.

  3. The crows are wonderful, as is that button fabric. I like your new patriotic stitch. My eyes must be about the same age as yours and when I work on 36 or 40 count it takes a while to get used to it. Thanks for the book suggestion. I always have 3 or 4 going at the same time. And now that I use the Good Reads app, I have a list of 25 or more To Read in the Future.

  5. I like the crow stitch, it's got a very neat look to it. I know what you mean about the whole "eyes" thing when you hit your fifties - I'm getting closer to my sixties and yesterday tried to find a fabric my eyes could cope with. It's not funny.

  7. I really love your new sampler finish, Melody--what great summer colors! And the crows look great, too. There is just something about stitching and crows that seem to go together. Remember the stitching and geese and stitching and teddy bear phases back in the early '80s? Ha ha!!

Enjoy your Sunday and good luck with all those library reports! Our summer reading clubs for children/YA/and adults are all off to a great start!

  8. Hi Melody, Love the crows! I also love to stitch crows and blackbirds. I'm stitching Liberty House now too. We must be stitching sisters. I used fabric out of my stash so I'm making a lot of thread color changes. I used the Old Hickory for the bird as called for and I hate it. It's too green. Just a warning but maybe it's just my dye lot. They can be so different. Enjoy your stitching!

  10. Hello Melody,

your cross stitches look all so wonderful.
Please, I have a question, to the pattern of the black crow in the white hoop.
Can you say, from which designer this pattern is?

    Thanks kind regards from Bavaria
